👟 Walkability

🙏🏼 Thank you

Mainly a touristy island. Even the people who work there only come during Spring-Summer seasons.

It feels like a vacation town even for the Greeks themselves.

Sneakers for those longer walks especially if you are hiking from destination to destination.

Comfortable sandals are popular in the Summer.

Within main towns like Oia and Fira, walking is very accessible.

If you want to travel in between and around the island, a car is recommended.

Things we did

Some memorable stops.

Walk Oia

This the the town on the tip of the island, famous for their sunsets. From experience the town is the most romantic, but the sunset is good from any of the major towns. If you want to avoid the crowds, come during the afternoon or mornings and book a restaurant in the town of Imerovigli to guarantee a seat at a less crowded spot. See Map

Wine Tasting

There are lots of local options because the volcanic soil makes their wine taste especially mineral forward. It's worth spending a lazy afternoon sipping their local offerings. We went to Anhydrous Estate Winery and enjoyed their 6 glass tasting. See Site

See Akrotiri Archaeological Site

One of the largest preservations of an old city from the Bronze Age. You can see the remnants of the. walls preserved from an volcanic eruption. A recent archeological discovery, this site is absolutely worth the stop if you want to see a bit of the island's local history. See Map

Some memorable nom nom noms

To Psaraki

Secluded casual seafood stop. I would recommend coming here for lunch, sit by the water and order their local fish. I especially loved their Fish Capriccio. It might have been one of my favorite dishes on the entire trip. See Map

Ammoudi Fish Restaurant

You've probably seen this name listed on most Santorini food blogs. I would say their food there is worth the try but the real experience is the journey getting to the restaurant. The route there is through the winding streets of Oia, down steep steps with the view of the ocean onto a secluded pier side. They are famous for their sun dried octopus which is worth the order. See Map

UNDA

This is a newly opened place right outside the crowded streets of Oia where you can seek some reprieve from the crowds. This is probably the best valued meal we had in Santorini. See Map

Kapari Wine Restaurant

The food here was decent, but I would recommend coming here for the sunset views. It's located in the small town of Imerovigli that has the same cliffside sweeping views of the sugar cube houses without the crowds. We guaranteed front row seats with a 6 course meal and a decent bottle of local wine. See Map
