Peruvian Sol Credit Cards (most established restaurants take card) | Walking and Ubers | 10% | Spanish English (rare) |
👓 Norms | 💃🏻 Wear | 👟 Walkability | 🙏🏼 Thank you |
Pretty typical city, but most fashion is imported so there isn't much of a discount shopping here (minus no sales tax!) Asains are not common so I did often see people staring. | Typical jeans and a shirt. We went during June (Peru Winter) so puffer jackets were commonly seen. | Low, recommend calling Ubers to get around. Some shopping areas are walkable. | "Gracias" |

Things we did
Some memorable stops.
Inka Market
Artisan shops for last min souvenir gifts and finding the perfect llama. See Map
One the Store
Cute boutique for men and women’s wear and wearable sweaters and tops. See Map
Ka Concept Store
Another cute boutique for clothing and home goods See Map
Museo de Arte de Lima
Comprehensive showcase of Peruvian art from pre-colonial times to post. I especially enjoyed seeing local artists try and define a style for themselves after they became independent. The piece of the Spanish separating the Inca king from his concubines was especially powerful since it was painted in a European style. See Map
Pucllana Site Museum
An archeological site in the middle of the city. You can get a free tour of a clay and adobe stepped pyramid in Lima dating back 200-400 AD. Most importantly, you can see their alpaca and guinea pigs in the back! Bring cash to tip your tour guide. See Map
Things we ate
Lima has one of the top restaurants in the world. Some of there were ranked in the World's Best 50 restaurants in the world. I'll share my hot take on it but of course, always recommend everyone to try themselves!
Mérito
We loved this place. Please go. The octopus was “the best we ever had” and their selection of non alcoholic drinks were so creative and delicious. We got their kombu pear (mocktail) and the apple pisco (cocktail). Also recommend their ceviche and corn. Reservation recommended. See Map
Isolina Taberna
Good scallop and stir fry noodle, good for family style. This is a popular spot. Reservation recommended. See Map
Cevichería Barra Maretazo
Wide selection of ceviche and large servings of pisco sour. Also enjoyed the seafood rice. Pretty casual, reservation is not required. See Map
Central
Rated #1 in the Top 50 restaurants 2023 - and she delivered. Conceptually, they delivered a very thoughtful presentation of the Peruvian landscape through experimental texture play. If I had to describe this meal, it is that it was delivered with absolute precision. Our favorite dish was the creamy squash accompanied by avocado cubes and "shrimp fossils". Also have to call out that their non-alcoholic tasting pairing was freaking BOMB. Reservation required. See Map
Maido
We also happened to have a reservation for Maido when that same week it won the top spot on Top 50 Best. For me, the menu was a little heavier than I would have wanted. But, my partner throughly enjoyed it. They start with very smokey and bold flavors and continue down that path all the way to the end with their chorizo ice cream. Their execution was not as sharp as Central, but the service and presentation was on par. Our favorite was the wagyu egg yolk and uni. Reservation required. See Map
