Things we did
Some memorable stops.
SF MoMa
Multi-floor experience of photography, modern art, and rotating installations. I especially enjoy that they have a Coffee Shop on Floor 2, and a Sculpture Garden on Floor 5. See Map
California Academy of Science
Great place to see different ecosystems in an immersive space. This museum houses a Butterfly Exhibit where you can walk a spiral incline to the top of a dome and watch butterflies flutter in a tropical space. They also have an underground aquarium where you can spot their famous albino alligator or sign up ahead of time for a viewing in their Planetarium. Would recommend checking out their rooftop domes, where you can get a whole view of the plaza and ferris wheel. It's a pleasant walk through the Golden Gate Park to get to this museum, so wear your walking shoes. See Map
West Coast Craft Fair
This is housed in the northern reaches of the city in Fort Mason and happens twice a year. Find local artists showcase everything from original art, jewelry, ceramics, clothing and candles. The quality and diversity is worth taking the trip here. They have food truck and beverage vendors for a quick bite to eat. See Site
Heath Ceramics
I'm a sucker for local goods. Heath is a really well known ceramic brand locally created in San Francisco. Check out their open shops to see a variety of dinnerware, homeware and some artsy books. See Map
Things we ate
Very delicious things
Daeho Kalbijim & Beef Soup
Generally there is a waitlist for this place but if you have the time and patience, it is absolutely worth trying their beef rice cake bowl topped with melted cheese. It sounds crazy but it is one of the most delicious things you will ever eat. See Map
Terra Cotta Warrior
Northern China dishes, with hand pulled noodles and spices for a kick. We typically order their Qi-Shan Noodle Soup with Sour Pork, Three in One Biang Biang Noodle and Shannxi Cold Noodle See Map
A Mano
Classic home made pastas at an affordable price. They have a seaonsal menu that rotates and all their pastas are made in house. This is located in Hayes Valley which is right accross from both a coffee place and Smitten's Ice Cream for after meal desserts. See Map
Mensho Tokyo
Another hype place, but it is a city stand out. If you enjoy a thick creamy ramen broth, this restaurant delivers. They are famous for their Tori Paitan Ramen. Be aware they close on Monday and would recommend going here around 5:45 so you can avoid a longer wait time, See Map
Rich Table
If you are willing to splurge on one fancy place, I would recommend this restaurant. They have a thoughtful tasting menu that is California inspired. You get everything from the coastline oysters to seasoned airy bread. They use a local ingredients in an intimate space. See Map
Bi Rite Ice Cream
There are a lot of local ice cream spots in the city but Bi Rite is by far my favorite. They have explorative and rich flavors from Mint Chip, Lavender Honey, Earl Grey, and Salted Caramel. It's next to Dolores Park, if you want to eat your ice cream with a bit of a stroll. See Map
Fumi Curry
A super casual, no reservation needed, solid restaurant. The showstopper dish is their Teppan Curry. It comes on a hot plate of rice and Teppan chicken or fish, and curry sauce gets pour over with a sizzle. The curry makes the bottom of the rice crispy for a nice satisfying crunch towards the end. If crispy curry is not your cup of tea, they also have a very unique Squid Ink Curry. See Map
Breadbelly
A very popular Asain & California fusion that specializes in baked goods, coffee and light bites. We are a huge fan of their soups and their Kaya Toast. See Map
